Waconia

Post by Tighe »

I'm heading out to Waconia. Sounds like it is the only lake locally that has snow attached to the ice.

Come on out and play! Let's put some color in the grey. Should be warm and breezy.

It was fun out there but the wind was more off-shore than I expected. There were a bunch of lessons going on too. I got a chance to look at the Ozone Frenzy. Sweet looking kite.

I was just cruising on my 3.3 and Chuck and Mikey were holding down the Frenzy's well. I was too chicken to take out my Psycho. The gusts were psychotic enough.

It got wet at about 2PM and my board was sticking to the ice when I flatend it out. I bailed but there were others still rocking.

SNOW SNOW SNOW!

Yup!! A Fine day.. I could have used a bit less wind on the gusts for my first flight of my 7.3 Frenzy tho... ;-)
Unfortunatly, I re-injured an old kayak shoulder, so had a shorter day than I wanted...
Ibuprophin works wonders tho... ;-)

Frenzy was Great!

Post by Chuck G. »

Yes, it was a fun day at Waconia! It was the third time flying the Frenzy 7.3 for me. What a kite! I learned a lot about it with the winds we had today. The depower system is great! Can't wait to take it out again.

I hope your shoulder is feeling better Mike and you can get back out there and try your Frenzy again. It was fun to see Eric and Jerry rippin it up on snowboards!!

Good to see so many people out there. I was out by about 10am, though gave a few lessons. The lake was completely white and snow covered. By the time I put up my own kite it was like water skiing. Holding an edge became increasingly difficult. Jerry was looking sweet on his freeSkate when I left. Beautiful day to be out on the lake.

Bring on the snow....please.

Since it didn't get that cold last night, I would think the lakes would be pretty slushy/wet still. Might be an ok morning session before it warms again. It would be good to have a mountain board with blades, like Eric posted awhile back.

Enjoy the day either way.

Wet and slippery

Post by scottchapman »

It was nice to get some rides yesterday. I almost got a big ride.
There was a small plane touching down on the ice and taking off again.
It look pretty cool, but I was hoping my lines would not get caught in the wing when he went by. I waved at them though. I took a bit of a downwinder as the snow melted. It took me a half hour to get back up wind. I needed to keep the kite almost straight over head to make any headway up wind. OK anyone know how that snow dance goes again.
Bill and I did the wind dance at Mille Lacs one day and it worked. It came up to 5.0 within an hour. Bill? :?

Hey Scott,

That was kind of weird with that plane flying around. I wasn't too scared cause you could here him comming then drop the kite down. I saw him doing some touch-and-goes by the island. I don't know what the regs are on that but it did look cool.

I was also suprised at how easily you relanched your kite off the ice. I was thinking about heading upwind to help you but saw you just kind of roll the kite on it's side then it was in the air. It didn't look like it was hard on the kite either.

Was that an older Wipika Free Air? It looked like it rocked for snowkiting.

We just need a few inches of snow to make riding so much more relaxed.

Snowboarding on ice is getting old.

 This is an older kite. Really easy to relaunch. Great beginner kite.
Now that I think about it. I wanted to get close enough to race the plane and wave at the pilot.
