Winter Windsurfing is Possible in Minnesota. If air temp. goes up into the forties, (a 50 degree temp. is even nicer) then there's open water on wide rivers, like the Mississippi, St. Croix River,,,ah...maybe that's it. Sure, it's nice to Ice sail, if you have an ice surfer...but it's kinda scarry because you gonna go WAY to fast on blades on smooth Ice. (A lot of sailors are knocking their knees together worried about falling from a standing position and maybe hitting the ice at 60 mph. If you have an ice boat (a DN or a Nite skeeter) go for it! This way your almost lying down, and it's not so bad to spill out onto the ice sideways going 60 plus mph.
Anyway, it's fun to practice gybes on open water in the winter on the river because it's flat water, (Due to the ice upstream keeping out any wave build-up).
But of course you must wear a Dry suit for this. A life vest is also recommended, in the event they need to find your corpsicle. Well, that's not gonna happen because you can't go very far out on a river.
Or else just wait till March to Windsurf again on open water! That'll be March 1st, Like last year! That's just Two months and some days to go!
Quetzalcoatl out.
WINTER WINDSURFING is a good thing.."just gotta know where to go..."
