Similar to other kiteboarding events the kitefreeze is a freestyle event. Below is a list of Judging Criteria:

Criteria Includes:
- Smooth Transitions from Trick to Trick
- Difficulty and Quality of Tricks
- Use of Time
- Height and Distance of Airs
- Use of Wind Conditions Available
- Control and Use of Kite

I think instead of only doing freestyle, all around kiting skills should be incorporated. A race around Big Island, for example, would involve kite control, tactics, and equipment choice. Here in the flatland, we spend most of our time on the ground anyways. Granted, it loses a little of the radness some people like.

I concur! the most I have learned about how to trim kites, sails and race cars has come from racing. Toss a bit of a long racecourse in to the kitefreeze and you will probablly see more regular guys that have raced score some serious pointage.

awesome idea,

how do you implement it?

I think Vojta and myself are on the same page. We want to create a non freestyle category though the implementation is the tough part. A race is a good idea. We'll keep pondering it.

I think it is a great idea and would definately draw high interest to alot of kiters abroad, including myself.

Why not just paint a line in the snow, then set a cone 2-300 yards in one direction and a cone 2-300 yards in the other direction.

Kiter starts at the line charges to round one cone then back to round the other and so on and so on. Maybe have three runs per competitor, average the three run times for the best time overall, or maybe throw out one round and average each competitors two best times for fastest overall. Then we could also race for best time for a single run etc. etc. etc. You get the picture.

Just an idea...

I like the idea of starting a race from Kite Island and going around Big Island. It would take some endurance and involve all sorts of tactics, techniques, equipment, decisions to win it. Start like a sailboat race. Or else a LeMans start where every racer has a launcher/person.
