The reason why I took up winsurfing was......

Post by Quetzalcoatl »

I sailed sailboats all my life since I was six years old.

I never really appreciated windsurfing when it came out in in 1980 (here in Minnesota).
I even kind of "sneered" at it! "That's not sailing, (I thought), where's the rudder? where's the tiller, where's
the main sheet?" But,,one early day in May of 2001, I saw this guy windsurfing very fast!, he was
just motating and speeding and jumping and even jumping over logs and debris in water of Lake Pepin, just outside Lake City. That Spring (2001) we had the biggest flood since 1965, and the entire Marina was flooded. Even the building of the Marina had doors swung open with water coming in and out.
Watercraft was PROHIBITED from being out on the water. But not this Windsurfer! he was just all over the place hydroplaning with speeds close to 30 mph and jumping over that that junk (debris) in the water.

When I saw that,,,I decided, I need to take up windsurfing! That guy was: Chris Brown (of Red Wing).

I don't know why I waited so long,,,but Windsurfing is King! or Queen too!!

PS: Sometimes it takes something thrilling to watch to get a person started in a sport,,like the image I observed that day
in May on Lake Pepin.

Quetzalcoatl out,,,and WINDSURFING on the RISE!

Anyone else care to share (how YOU got interested in Windsurfing or Kiteboarding)?

A friend in Montana convinced me to watch the Robby Naish movie 'RIP'. That's all it took.
