Windsurf man speaks...on iceboating/windsufing futures....

Post by Quetzalcoatl »

Ya know...there never or "almost" never has been an iceboat or ice yacht store.

Usually the DN iceboats or Nite skeeters or the stern steerers are "home made" from a kit.
Oringinally The DN's were made in a warehouse basement of the "Detroit News" newspaper in the 1930's. thus the name "DN."
Yes, there was a time (maybe still "is a time") that Nite skeeter iceboats were manufactured at Johnson boatworks (now called White Bear Lake Boatworks).

But usually the iceboats are make at home.

And iceboating/ice yachting has persisted as a sport for over a century in spite of not having any factories to make them

nor retail stores to sell them. Somone makes an iceboat and at some point sells it and it gets re-sold and passed on from sailor to sailor.

This may be the future for windsurf boards as well. It may be that some day there are no shops, but there WILL be Swaps!!!

And Windsurfing like ice boating will continue to be a popular activity forever!

Again maybe no shops,,but there will ALWAYS be SWAPS!!!

Windsurf man out.
