Waconia Tuesday Sep 30?

Post by KitingKen »

Sitting here at work and Wind alert says a 15+mph wind at Waconia blowing from east. Anyone going out today? Will the bike path launch site work for east wind?

if the wind clocks a bit toward south the bike path launch should work ok...

Well that ended up being a very pleasant session from about 2:00 to 4:00. I was the only one out there until another guy (was that you Fabrino?) showed up. A few short lulls required a quick walk back upshore. But quite a few 18-20mph gusts blistered through too. The wind was coming in at an angle and seemed to gather speed nearest the shore perhaps being funneled by the trees. So the most excitement was during those last few feet before parking the kite in a tree...which I did earlier this year when nobody was looking :)

Thanks to whoever cut all the roots off that stump and cleared out the brush! Getting down to the lake back in June was like crawling through the jungle and then the water was too deep. Now its actually a decent launch.

Hope folks get in a couple more sessions before it snows. That's my last session. No dry suit yet. But going to Padre for the first time Nov 6 and looking forward to a winter like last year.

Yes, it was me :D ..
You left at the right time!
After you left I ventured in the middlle of the lake attracted by the whitecaps there.. but it was a trap..
at around 4.30 the wind sort of died and getting back to shore was a lot of work.. :D
but the colors were absolutely worth it... and it's true the fast run under the gusts close to the trees were fun...

Why last session??? Friday is looking good right now and don't think you need a drysuit...

I hope you weren't floating out there too long! It did look windy out there a ways but every time I went out too far it seemed to fade and I barely made it back, so I kept closer to shore.

Have fun Friday if the wind sticks. I don't think I can get out of work again for a week or two and expect by then it will be too cold. Also don't want to jinx my Padre trip given that I and my equipment are in one piece right now!
