Surfing near Savannah GA
Anyone ever surf down by there. Any good? Rentals, dangers, etc?
Re: Surfing near Savannah GA
Hi smuda,
You've probably discovered this but Tybee Island is the local beach community in Savannah GA. I have kited there and kited/surfed St Simons Island just to the south. Several surf shops and a nice beach vibe in Tybee. As you know, Surfline.com (Tybee Island pier) surf report says it all.
Might point out this area is in the south Atlantic bight. You'll notice the mid to high tides which can produce strong currents especially near inlets. Learned this the hard way in St Simons kiting offshore hurricane Sandy. Lost my board noooooway of catching it as it drifted out. It was found two months later 10 mi inland up a tributary. This tidal flush also deposits silt in water, no biggy, just not caribbean clear. Again , Tybee has a great beach. happy surfing
