Kite Summit

Post by MK »

A few of us are heading out to the Big Horn Mountains Dec 1-8. An event hosted by Ozone and the Jackson Hole Kiters is happening there in Wyoming. The title of it is Kite Summit with intention of addressing the future of kiting, and of course kiting in powder up to our necks and terrain terrain terrain. They had a questionnare and I thought you might enjoy seeing the questions:
- How long have you been kiting on the snow and separately the water?

- Do you Ski or snowboard or both? If both which is stronger?

- What is your level (beginner, intermediate, expert, industry pro)? If you are an industry pro, how are you associated… a retailer, manufacturer, team rider, media organization, instruction, guide or something along these lines?

- Do you kite on public land, private land, or both? How do you choose where to kite?

- Do you need legal permissions for any of the above locations? If so, what permissions do you obtain?

- What is your favorite aspect of snowkiting… wakestyle, freestyle, freeride, kitesoaring, teaching or big mountain? Choose as many as you like, & please prioritize.

- What is your local snowkite spot and what is your season?

- What is your main forecasting resource? How often do you get skunked %?

- What is your comfortable height off the snow when snowkiting?

- What safety precautions if any have you made for big air? For example a climbing harness, direct chicken loop attachment, hook and chickenloop backups …?

- What is your kitesoaring style for an extended glide (forward reverse controls, forward crossed lines, backwards)? Keep in mind that a normal flatland land jump would be a backwards glide.

- Big air or not, do you have safety and instructional concerns about big airs, and kitesoaring?

- Have you ever been badly injured snowkiting? Could it have been avoided?

- The last few years have been on and off regarding events and event structure. Do you have any feedback you can provide regarding what has worked at past events that you have attended, and what hasn’t worked?

- Do you like the idea of formal competition circuits for snowkiting and why?

- What kind of events do you prefer? Course race, free style, wake style, best line… do you have any new ideas?

- What kind of clinics are you interested in? Including snowkite to camping, kitesoaring, difficult terrain, launching and landing, intermediate skill building, freestyle and wakestyle with friends to improve and push technical skills, media, and so on.

- Are you bringing a snowmobile?

- Do you have touring gear?

- Do you have lodging reserved? If so, where & for what dates? If not then do it!
