Is Calhoun ready to go yet?

Post by johnz »

Has anyone ventured out on it? I'm interested in one of these 'later' freezes - hopefully it will be smoother.

I was on WBL on Saturday -not bad - there is a little river/crack that runs along the island/sand bar off of Ramsey beach.

I was on Medicine on Sunday - at least 4 inches, but pretty bumpy on the SE side - it got a little better in the middle of the lake.

Did the pooling water on Wac refreeze nicely?

Waconia is in great condition again after the refreeze. Mainly hard black ice with minimal cracks that I have found so far. 450 miles on the iceboat year to date and increasing fast as long as the ice stays like this. Found a couple of small pressure ridges when I skated around the island on the NE & SE corners but were very close to shore & pretty well frozen.

As of today, Calhoun still has open water off of the north beach. South side of the lake has been frozen for some time but I'd let some cold weather set in before I went out on it (but that's just me). I've seen people walking around on it, but everyone is sticking pretty close to shore.
