Ocean Rodeo Mako?!

Post by Bill S. »

I have heard so many good things about these boards, especially their abilities in gnarly Gorge chop and mushy Great Lakes shore breaks. Anybody have a review to share? Thanks,

Bill

I had the Mako Classic for two years. Loved it. You ride it with a more even stance than a typical twin tip, very smooth through the chop, great up wind, good edge, fun on waves. It was my favorite board until I learned how to use my 5' 5" surfboard (Caution Trespass), which I like way better... its even smoother through the chop, awesome upwind, great in strong and light wind, and it's giving me carves I've waited all my life for. If I had not picked up the Trespass the Mako would probably still be my favorite board, but I sold it this spring.

Bill,
I have two Mako's and love them. I've owned a lot of different boards the last 5 years and settled on the Mako Freestyle as my favorite. I really like how smooth these are through our choppy conditions and love the surfy feel it provides. Another bonus is very little spray in the face due to the curved outline. I'm not an extreme trick rider (but do like to jump and pop off the waves) and for me, this board works great.

I switch between the Mako 140 wide and the 150 classic (which I bought from Barry) depending on how strong the wind is blowing. You are welcome to try mine if you see it at the beach.

I've got a Mako King 165 if you wish to try it out.
