lets Kite....

Post by lukedjr85 »

I am new to Minneapolis and I have only been able to ride one time here on Lake washington, which was pretty fun.

I am having trouble figuring out where and when to be at what lake given the conditions, I have always kited in the ocean and it seems like there is a lot more detail to look for on the lakes in regards to wind direction, temperature, actual wind vrs. reported wind....

Anyway, if anyone would be kind enough to either offer some pointers for websites to check for wind readings that would much appreciated. Also, if anyone could shoot me a line on here is they are heading out any time soon and don't mind a tag-along, that would also be much appreciated.

thanks,

self sufficient kiter, new to Minn.

"welcome aboard Skywalker!" Try clicking on the "Lakes" heading above. It has the details you seek, though it could use some updating. If you are into waves, & own a drysuit, watch for NE wind blowing into the Duluth shores on Lake Superior. Click on the Wind" heading to get wind direction and forecasts. It contains reports for most of the launches in the "Lakes" section. I like noaah/NWS predictions & Mille Lacs for riding. You will usually see posts on this site as to where people are headed. Have fun.

it's been blowing NE in Duluth for quite a while now! seems like every day is ridable regaurdless of what the forecast says!

we ride every direction in Duluth!

you dont need a Dry for duluth a 3-5 mill wetsuit will work just fine! a few days ago I was out with just the dry... no booties, gloves or hood!

lukedjr85, conditions look like they may be good at Mille Lacs tomorrow (Monday). I also live in the Minneapolis area so if you're free tomorrow and would like to tag along, let me know.
