We have had a tragic accident on this trip. Thank you for the community support. Please keep the family in your thoughts.
I happen to come across a verse recently. In my search for peace I'll share:
He rode on one of the angels as he flew, and he soared on the wings of the wind. Psalm 18:10

Re: Dr. Mark Hruby
Very sad...our community thoughts are with the family...
Authorities are investigating the death of a Minnesota man who died in a kite boarding accident off South Padre Island. Cameron County Pct. 1 deputy constables reported that 57-year-old Mark Ronald Hruby of Mora, Minnesota died in the Thursday afternoon accident. Investigators told Action 4 News it all happened in the Laguna Madre about one mile north of South Padre Island's Beach Access 5. Witnesses saw Hruby lose control of the kite to his kiteboard, fall into the bay and then get dragged. A witness drove his boat to the location of the accident and pulled Hruby's body from the water.
Paramedics tried to revive the 57-year-old man and took him to a local hospital for treatment. Cameron County Pct 1. Justice of the Peace Been Ochoa pronounced Hruby dead at 4 p.m. Wednesday and ordered an autopsy. It's not clear if Hruby was an experience kiteboarder but preliminary results show that his cause of death was drowning.

Re: Dr. Mark Hruby
I am so, so sorry to hear this. I know all of our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
It would be really helpful to hear more details about this when appropriate: what was his experience level, was he by himself, what were the wind conditions, etc., but I'm sure that will come in time.
Who knew him? Is there anything we can do for his family?

Re: Dr. Mark Hruby
I managed to find his obit in the Mora area newspaper. For those of us who didn't know him that well, it gives some interesting insights into his life & his survivng family. I had the privilege of kiting with Mark at Mille Lacs, as well as at various windsurfing events over the years. We have lost a great member of our community. This is a time to mourn his passing along with his family, but also to reflect on how we can help to make this sport safer, both as individuals and as a group of concerned & conscientious riders. BE SAFE PEOPLE! We can't afford to lose any more, ever again.
