Friday Kiting

Post by cericson01 »

Anyone going out tomorrow and where?? I checked Medicine Lake today and it was snow covered and slushy but had more than 2 feet of solid ice! As I am pretty new at this I am thinking about late morning or early afternoon before the wind starts getting really strong....

I would like to get out tomorrow also, anyone been on Calhoun lately? I will check the ice in the morning and post a update here. I'd like to be with other kiters just for ice safety, so if your headed out, maybe a few of us could hook up somewhere? Post when and where. Might be the last last snow session, but I said that last week. Later on George.

East side of medicine would be good. I could be out there by 3:30 4:00 unless something comes up at work. As mentioned, it would be good to have other people around.

Me and another guy will be at Mahtomedi by 2:00. I'm hoping there won't be any standing water on the ice after last night's rain. Sunday we're planning to get a session in at Mille Lacs which still has good snow cover.

At Calhoun now. It's a sloppy, slushy, mess with random drain holes. Winds awesome but I'm gonna pass. Ice is good if you don't mind 5" deep puddles. George

I may stop by Mahtomedi after work today about 5:30. If you are there and back before then could you please post an update on conditions?

I am thinking about doing something Sunday as well. Never been to Mille Lacs.

Thank you

I'm hoping to get out on Medicine Lake around 4:30, I stopped by around noon and Chris was out there. There's definitely some water on top from the rain last night, but it didn't look as deep as it was a couple weeks ago. Maybe Chris will post an update.

Just left med lake most of lake was about 1/2 inch of water/slush with a few deeper areas wind was great for my almost 2 HR session. Ice was soft enough to easily get an edge. Yesterday ice was 24 inches but I think it is at least a couple inches less today. Don't think ice will be safe for much longer so get out and have some fun!

Mahtomedi was the same as Calhoun, too much standing water, so I passed on it. Still crossing my fingers for the chance to get one last session in at Mille Lacs on Sunday.

Calhoun has dried completely and has locked up (no standing water) as of 9am today.

Iceboats are setting up now, I plan to kite once it softens a bit.
