Open water

Post by surfalex »

I just finished a flight that took us straight south of the twin cities. Got a good look at what's frozen and not. If you are desperate for open water and kiting/ windsurfing you have to drive about 6.5 hrs south and get to a point about 100 miles north of Kansas city. Last year I had my first water session on Calhoun on 4/1. Just don't think that'll happen this year.

Looking at the satellite, I'd estimate Superior is 97.3% ice free. The duluth area was ice free a couple weeks ago, but looks like the ice moved during last weeks easternly gales.

Does anyone know whether the Lester or Brighton Beach is open for business?
