Wow

Post by Tighe »

worked my way up to WBL today. Rode from about 10 to 2 in the middle of the storm. OMG what an experience. The drifts kept getting bigger and bigger and the visibility kept getting worse and worse. My board is set up a bit directional so there were quite a few times the nose dug into a drift with a face plant to follow. Just had to laugh. I've never seen such terrain on surface...well actually really see it, just feel it. You'ld be ridding along and just drop off the front side of a "wave" of snow.

Looking forward to hitting it tomorrow when you can see what you're doing a bit more.

Thanks Randy for hosting a mini blizzard kite gathering.

Ya. Pretty crazy. Took me 20 minutes to figure out how to ride my twin tip skis in the stuff. Just had to ride the tails and keep the kite high. Had to take the goggle off to see better... had some nice jumps near the end. Crashes were like landing in pillows... Note to self. Put kite bag in car in blizzards.... Mine got buryed in the snow. Took me 20 minutes of walking in deep snow to find it.... Just saw a small black thing. turned out to be the end of the pump air hose. Time to buy a bike wippy flag. Truely an experiance to remember!

...and boy was it windy. What kind of kite does one fly in 18-183 mph winds?

I wonder how their algorithm determines there is 'freezing fog'? I've never heard of that one.

Hey Tighe,

Which launch did you launch from and what bay did you ride? Haven't been out there in the winter yet and am going today.

Thanks,
Dan

We were on the south side of the West bay. The road runs right along the shore there. Just east of Bellaire. That bay has been frozen the longest. Snowmobiles and 4 wheelers have been out on the ice. No idea about the east side of the lake. It froze later.

Heading back out there soon.

Yeah, wow! I gave it a go for about an hour until my quads and abs were shot. Not enough light to cast texture on the "moguls" so a real guessing game while riding along. B/t the surface challenges and managing the gusts it was very unique riding. I did time one really decent ramp off the face of a drift and the land in the pow was sooo soft. I must have pearled my board through 20 drifts, some stopping me and others I counter balanced to drive through them. The snow is fluffy and actually talking to me right now to get out and play in it.

Crazy conditions. Really fun, tiring. Glad I went out. Thought about crashing the east side party. Sounds like all enjoyed the day. Funny how we revel in the opportunity to play in these conditions.
