Anyone hitting Wac (even though some east in that southerly)

Post by skattum »

Was thinking about Wac today and wondering if anyone has kited her on a SSE. Will likely be heading out that way late morning.

Yeah I'm considering that as an option. SSE works, just not SE. You can do SE it just takes a bit to get out from shore. WInds look good down here.

Swell isn't that big on Wac on a SSE since it's only coming across a mile or two of open water but it still works.

Watch the radar. A big storm cell is moving this way. Wind behind it.

I don't understand the weather forecast. The huge storm cell is moving in from the west, and yet we'll be getting SSE winds after it passes? Can the wind move in the opposite direction of the storm (rushing into an area of low pressure)?

Waconia, Ramsey or Garrison?

Tighe, do you always launch from the DNR site at Waconia? In the profile in the "Lakes" section, there's a little white triangle on the north side of Waconia. Do you ever launch from there?

They didn't mention anything about rain in today's forecast, but it definitely looks like some rain is moving through. I'm going to try and head out to Waconia after the storms roll through. (Assuming that the radar is correct, that is.)

Marc,
Many times the surface winds can move in different directions than the general pattern. The wind direction is caused more by the pressure changes, as indicated by the isobars.

I'm now thinking Garrison. Tom, Scott and I scanned the weather and determined that looked best. Looks like it's going to blow till dark and they just upped the forecast. Some of the winds behind the wind have a lot of east in them making Waconia less of an option. Alexandria is 26-38mph which is behind the storm line so hopefully some of that will hit mille in a few hours.

The launch on the North side of Waconia has been closed for a few years. It would be awesome to have a launch over there.

Exp. shows wind coming from due south after midday, making Waconia a good option still.

Never sailed out of Garrison. Always hard to head up there when it is dead calm here.
