Good winds at Malmo today! Shared the park with a dozen others who drove up after the swap...Chad, Jeff, Adam, Jim and a few others whose names I didn't catch (noticed a few at Reddy, too).
Arrived just before noon to winds 20-25 with a few gusts to 30mph. Smoother wind and warmer water than I expected, perfect for the 9m T3, although others were out on 11-12's. Looks like a repeat for Sunday!
Posted a few photos in the gallery.

Re: Marvelous Malmo 5-1-10
Mark,
That was Rick, George, myself and some kids from UofM up at Reddy yesterday. We arrived at Malmo mid-morning. I was mystified not to see any kites up. We drove on to Reddy, figuring that this is where everyone would be rigging up, but there was no one there either. I guess that everyone drove up late after the swap.
What algorithm do you use to choose between Malmo and Reddy?
What a great day. I was on my 9m, never underpowered. Rick was on a 12m looking very graceful and lofting to considerable heights. By late afternoon, the swell at Reddy was huge -- maybe 4 feet in places. Largest swell that I've ever seen in fresh water.

Marc,
I check out both places and make a choice based on the wind direction, crowd (swimmers), parking and swell. Malmo has a nice grass area for setup and your gear stays cleaner without the sand, lots of parking too (I've been stuck in the sand at Reddy more than once!). The swell is less at Malmo, which is sometimes a nice option. I tend to stay away from Malmo mid and late summer when the duck mites take over. Hate the itch they bring.
As you found, I think you just happen to arrive earlier than the crew after the swap. Today, I didn't see anyone at Reddy and all were at Malmo...wicked wind today, peaks of 40mph!

It was a great day at Reddy, very fun friendly vibe. Thanks for the board loan. Saved my day, made my day (weekend)
it did seem crazy to have so much beach and water with the wind and waves being as great as they were.

Re: Marvelous Malmo 5-1-10
i remembered on the drive home sunday why i dream of the next session at mille lacs. it delivered big winds and waves all wknd!
i originally went to the swap around 8 am with the intention of heading home after for a few hours and eventually over to waconia to ride because of the weather. little did i know i wouldnt be returning home until Sunday evening from mille lacs which was well worth the trip!
i think i am going to keep an emergency kite pack in my car. shorts and sandals were not ideal for the temps up there and could have used some overnight equipment.
thanks to chad and norman for the rides and hospitality. also, great running into the everyone along with meeting some new riders.
