Whose going to give it a try Thursday early afternoon?

Post by MK »

Do you trust the websites weather predictions or boots on the ground?

What is the minimal wind speed that gets you committed?

I'm not sure tomorrow is worth it for me. However, I've been wrong before and seen people post about their session because they showed up.

A steady 12 mph out of the NW would be sweat. Maybe it will out perform the forecast for a change. I like kite island but we could use some snow. I sailed out of the sailors world access on 15 yesterday and it was nice snow. But it will not work for tommorows wind. Yesterday I ventured out between brackets point and kite island it is all blown clear. Mostly bear ice. Better snow can be found on the upper lake. Cresent beach or Al and Almas would be good launch spots. I am going to check the wind in the morning and decide where to go. I will post. Does anyone know of a land spot with clean wind and some fun hills for terrain that would work on a NW wind.

i'll take one for the team.

i'll be at kite world noonish.. maybe earlier.

what wind speed do I need to go? well, on any given day, if i'm awake, there is a very good chance i'll be out there.

i've got a silly job in the morning, shouldn't take more than an hour - then, it's time to build up the kickers.

I'm in with anything 10 knts plus. I keep the 20m on board just in case. It still makes for great exercise.

I often ride in 6-10 mph (anemometer verified) winds with my 12m TD. It requires a sine wave flight pattern at the lower speeds. We were out on Tuesday and the winds read 10-15 mph. Most all of the guys were lit up riding 12m bow kites. I think people tend to overestimate the wind required to kite on frozen MN lakes. If the snow is deeper, more wind may be needed.

Tom,

Nice snow on the North sides of Upper Lake bays. If it hits 7-15mph I might sail down to Crescent Beach area from my house this PM. Crescent area might be chewed up by snowmobiles, haven't been down there for a week or so. I've been finding lots of untracked areas near shore on these South winds, great sugar sand conditions with traction for boosting. Silver Arrow 19m keeping me powered in sub 10 conditions.

Isobars are looking pretty fat :(

Finally emailed the last document. Time to run to Al and Almas to ride the NW wind on cooks bay. It is the closest solution and I am running late.
