Saturday Looking Good

Post by Kevinousdigian »

The last 4 days the 10 day MRF has shown another nice low bringing NWesterlies to the state late on Friday and especially looking good on Saturday. My wife is real close to having our 3rd baby and with a decent low pressure coming I'm thinking that could trigger it. I'm looking forward to that sleep deprivation :) but after that initial period it's all good! :D
On our vacation last week I had a lot of fun windsurfing with my 7 year old. She even wanted to go out when it was low 60s and light rain last Tuesday.
Enjoy more wind this weekend - it sure has been a good summer for wind.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE UPCOMING ARRIVAL. With all of your kiting, how did you find time? Nevermind, I don't really want to know. It sounds like your Daughter has inherited the bug. Glad we have family guys like you to re-populate the world with wind-freaks! Who says we're a dying breed? Way 2 go, I'll do my best to enjoy some of that wind for you.

kevin,

what is the name of that lake up near you? it's quite round? I can't seem to find it on google maps and friday might have to be a travel day for us either to baileys harbor in door county (warm south wind ahead of the front) or up near you guys (cooler NW winds) if we don't have winds in madison.

thanks,

bob

BOB, Click on any Noaa forecast & enter "Shell Lake, WI" up in the search window, and you'll see it is located between Spooner & Cumberland, up near Rice Lake. You'll see the lake off to the east as you drive through town. There looks to be a city park on the west shore, but I'm not sure where the other launch options might be. I've always been impressed that they have a landing strip nearby. BTW: Ever think you'd see Favre in purple?

Yes, it's shell lake. Nice lake with very little boat traffic and nice clean water without weed issues (except in south bay where we catch tons of bass but don't kite). Jim is right that city beach launch is good, nice swell out from it on a SE/E/NE wind. There is a public class B boat landing in NE corner straight south of Red barn campground. That works on SW-S-SE and has an ok rigging spot and some launch area but not that much due to docks. Could windsurf from there on a W.

I know people in the NE corner that I launch from on a S-SW-W and a different cabin for NW/N. The whole NW, N/NE and E side of lake is nice sand shallow out a reasonable ways and the east side towards the south has few docks.

With that said I'm not aware of a public launch for kiting NW winds so hopefully you'll get some winds straight north of you.

Jim
My wife and I took a trip to SPI last Nov without kids and I only kited during the days...

Sticking close to home and Lake Washington - Ellsworth launch. Then making it to Cokato Ironhorse to join in on the festivities as they are hosting and finishing up the bike run, live music and I believe a hog roast. Music starts at 8:00.

OK Bob,

As a seldom poster I will ask you the $64K question: why do they call you toyletbowl???

Saturday is looking good at the WAC! The West side boyz will ride!

You're loyal West Side Prof. has a very narrow window these days with a two-year-old and a bun in the oven! Guilt free sessions like this Saturday are totally precious!!!

Well, I'd love to make it out there this weekend, but unfortunately I have to clean the garage as well. I was really hoping to get out to Waconia or Lake Washington, but since the garage is so dirty and disorganized, I can't make it out there.

If I could make it to Lake Washington's Ellsworth launch (wherever that is), will that have less milfoil than the DRAG launch that I had problems at a few weekends ago? (That is, assuming I didn't have a garage full of junk to clean up.)

Or would Malmo really be more appropriate for me at this point? No, wait, I can't go up to Malmo because the garage is full of junk.

The sheep should be in the field at Father Hennepin (Mille Lacs) Saturday. I think we should go visit them.

Insert Scooby voice: Yummy! Lake Washington sounds like more than a kiting experience. I wonder if my wife can find something to do in her hometown of Litchfield close by...I'm due for a ride with Jerry and Peter.

I have to share with all the kid talk in this string I've got one on the way too. Sounds like it may be an unofficial Dad-day-out session.

anyone wanting to bring their children to the lake? Trying to decide if I bring Sophia along or set up a play date (for her). Always fun having kids on shore.

I think "having kids on the shore" gets kind of messy, not to mention being so embarassing for the mothers.
And...all those midwives do get in the way of the launching area.
