Thats got to be tough, I have a few rides on the air/sky chair behind the boat, one thing to have constant speed to ride on the foil, cant imagine trying to ride the foil in jibes and gusty winds

Looks like fun and a big workout for ankles and calves. You are correct a steady speed is very important when hydrofoiling. Devices like GPS speedometers and perfect pass in the boat make your ride much more consistent. My main reason for not getting one. I like having the wings and strut on the opposite side of the ski or board from my limbs and skull. On my Sky Ski I use the best aftermarket straps for seat belt and feet. Attachment at three points assures I will never contact the strut or wings. The speed would be fantastic. Hydrofoils have no drag once the board is off the water.

I been looking into getting into the more extreme (fast) side of sailing and I came across the Hydropter a trimaran with Hydrofoils that went over 60 Knots before fliping over.

another cool boat I found is the Hobie Trifoiler, too bad they cost like $12,000 Used it's based on a boat design that went over 50 knots... they advertize 35+ MPH

I think that it is Rush Randle that developed that. They are available for purchase at NeilPryde Maui. They make a tow in surf board and a wake/kite version also.

I am just finishing building a set of hydrofoils that I am going to put on one of my old imco's (then it can float when there's not enough wind and the length of it won't matter once it is up on the foils). It should be able to start riding on the hydrofoils at somewhere around 9 or 10 mph. I also have a nice trick on the setup to account for a steady ride at various speeds.

I got going on this after seeing Rush's setup in Windsurf magazine and also the vid on youtube. There are some serious improvements that can be made over having the single foil in the back and how it is set up, so I decided to put one together over the past couple weekends.

I should have it on the water by Memorial Day and will post some pics or videos of it then. I'll also bring it along to most of the MOWIND events this year (hope to have it done by Walleye or Dam Jam).

SORRY, the cred goes to Peter Lynn for the kite cat. Maybe some of you have met Matt (Dorian's son-in law) who wons and rides a kite cat. BTW: Our local Hobie dealer, Hi-Tempo, sails a tri-foil on WBL & they let my WS buddy, Stan Collins, pilot it one afternoon. I couldn't come close to matching the speed on my sailboard, it jibed on a dime, & was out funning the fastest motorboats!
