St. Mary's Sunday?

Post by Mike W »

It is looking like the wind might be right for St. Mary's Beach on the St. Croix on Sunday. It also looks cold. Anyone up for an adventure?

Avery, I am thinking noonish. Of course, it will depend on wind and temps. Let's keep an eye on it.

I-94 E.>AFTON EXIT S. ON ST. CROIX TR.>1ST LEFT PAST 22ND.>JOG S.& FOLLOW ST. MARYS TR. TO RIVER. BTW: There is a lock & dam just downstream in Precott. Just be sure and yell loudly, "CLOSE THE GATES!" should the current grab you.

It looks like wind strength and direction will be fine. Temps will be hovering near or slightly above freezing. Bring your cooler full of hot water. St. Mary's has a big, open sandy (or snowy) beach, so warming up hands is pretty easy to do mid-session. There is a parking lot less than a block from the beach. See you guys there!

Let's keep an eye on each other. A break-down with river current could be trouble.

It was fun today. Got there around 3PM. Mike, Kurt and Avery were already out. Rigged a 5.8, was nicely powered most of the time. ~5:30 (and after Luiz decided to rig up from the 6.0 to a 6.8 ) the wind picked up and the 5.8 was just perfect. We came out of the water ~7:00PM, I couldn't hold on to the boom anymore, the wind was still cranking when we left. Anyone up for a late afternoon session tomorrow?

Yeap, I should have kept the 6.0.

Yes, it was a great day out there. The sunshine was a huge bonus. I am thinking of another session early this afternoon. Looks like the wind will be coming straight down the river. Anyone care to join me?

Thanks for the photo, Jordan!
