Pepin?

Post by Mike W »

Anyone have a Lake Pepin ice report? Looks like a great wind direction for Sunday and Monday. If there is ice upstream, the debris might not be moving through yet. I have always wanted to kite down there.

It looks like the ice boaters reported over 24" last weekend.

The ice is melting on Pepin, open water only north of Lake City. If you want to kite there tomorrow, in the rain, you could have a blast at the most northerly spot marked on the folowing map, Sand Point. Open water all around there. I suspect the walk in would be very damp but not flooded just yet. The salellite view of this spot has been updated so the long, narrow beach is not visible on the satellite view.

Then again, I do not know if the strong southerly wind pushed the ice up the lake on Sunday? The rest area north of Lake City should be open very soon. I'll check it out in the AM and post here by 9AM.

Lake Pepin is wide open from the boat launch, north of town. Margarita ice on the shore at the rest area (refer to map on previous post). Currently no real beach at the rest area. Personally, I cannot get out on the water today. Capping hard currently.

Yesterday afternoon there had been a lot of ice shifting. "The Point" was free of ice for the most part and ridable. With all the wind raging up the lake it just looks like masses of margarita ice shifting around.

This morning "the point" is inaccessible due to mass quantity of margarita ice. Much more of the lake is open today however. Soooooooooon

The lake is completely ice free, at least on the MN side. I cannot imagine that there is any ice on the WI side.

Thanks, Pete! We need some wind now. Is that park with camping and the sandy beach accessible?

I believe you are refering to Hok-si-la Park, about 1 mile north of town? http://www.exploreminnesota.com/listing ... ityID=1638
Says it's open year round.
