BIG WHITE HAIRY BEAR!!

Post by JRN »

WOW! That Blizzard added a whole new dimension. Randy's front yard provided the perfect backdrop for a session in the snowglobe. Gusts that left you breathless, watching the crew going off, & then standing by, helpless as the snowplow buried the van on the shoulder. Does it get ANY better? I don't think so....Thanx for a great afternoon, and to Randy for yanking me out of the snowdrift. 8)

yeah that was one of the best. Nothing like carving in complete silence, no growl from the hard ice or crude just softness. As the wind picked up the drifts started setting up and made an interesting playgound. There were actually mini standing waves with vertical surfaces. If these set up they'll make nice ramps. In between the drifts though it was starting to expose some of the previous hardpack.

Good riding with everyone, though in those blizzard conditions you're a lot let connected to everyone. I forgot my headphones, but found myself singing to myself in pure joy.

what a day.

Thanks Randy for letting us play in your yard.

I've never kited on such soft snow. Felt like i was riding on a big pillow, thinking about it at the office this morning kinda makes me want to go back to sleep right now. Great session despite traffic doing everything in its power to keep me away.

Thanks for blazing a path for my car to get over the snowbank Patrick.

I missed the big, fresh, pow pow sesh :(

I'm in Oklahoma City and did however get some water time yesterday on Lake Hefner :D

My 7mm wetsuit was needed for the 55 or so degree water. I thought about putting in my 3mm cause it was 78 degrees but had a blast anyway. Totally fun mid winter transition to get some open water time. I've gotta figure out how to make it to Padre now.

These "Okie's" have some style. About 6 Slingshots and a Cabrihna lit up the waterscape. I met some really cool people who can really ride. I did my usually pump and jump maybe 10' 1 out of 5 times but these guys are way more dialed. Time spent in kiting is truely lifegiving. Meeting another fraternity of kiters solidifies this (not that I had any doubt).

I was asked how many people do this back home and I had never really thought about it so said several. They said they have maybe 25 people. I thought it was a little low. The metro including OKC and a close suburb to Lake Hefner, Edmond is close to 700,000 people. However, there is only one Lake to do this on. Not sure what the factors are but surprising nontheless.

I didn't find out if they have a forum like us but did discover 2 websites when I was planning my trip down here. They don't appear to be as active or informing as LAKAWA. Maybe there's some other website they use but with only 25 people maybe they don't need it...

Looking forward to getting some ride time in with "y'all" soon.

Mike
