Hi community -
Does anyone have experience with kitesurfing the Ft Myers area? The family and I will be on Ft Myers beach over the spring break (in the central / souther part of the beach). The historical wind graphs look pretty good for wind so I'm hoping to get in some sessions.
I've heard also that nearby Sanibel island is a better location to kite so if need be I can travel that way. Anyway, any first hand experience or information on Ft Myers beach or Sanibel Island would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I will be on Marco Island 2nd week of March. Looks like some good areas there. It will be my first time kiting the area but there seem to be alot of options.

Yes Sanibel Island is the place to go. On a west wind they kite right after the bridge on the north side. Other wise I heard at the lighthouse....not sure where that is. There is a kite shop there on the way to Sanibel Island.
I heard Marco Island is great, but that is about a half an hour south.
Have fun! I sure did.....

I heard that Tigertail beach is one of the spots. Just south of the bridge. I will be in Marco on the 9th through the 13th.

Lighthouse Point on the Southern tip of Sanibel Island is popular and we often see a couple of dozen kiters there. We have also seen a few kites off Bodwitch Point Regional Park that is located off the Northern end of Fort Myers Beach. Let us know if you are going to be down the week of March 16th! We'll bring our gear down. There is a kite shop on McGregor off Summerlin close to where you are staying -- they should be able to direct you to the right beach for the wind conditions.

Ace Prerformer . com is that shop in Ft. Meyers. Looks like its on the main road in ft m on the way to Sanibel. i will be down there with wife and kids and kites March 14 for a week. May try bonita beach or lovers key as these are the beaches closest to where I am staying. Sounds like the causway at sanibel is the hot spot. This will be my first time in this area. Tight Lines!

Todd and I had great experiences at the Lover's Key beach access and any access between there and Doc's beach house on Bonita Beach. There is a great public access at the entrance of Hickory Boulevard heading east from Doc's beach house to Lover's key. If you walk up the shoreline to the north, there is a peninsula there that you can walk from to the other side of the inland waterway access. At low tide, you can walk across the channel and there is a great pool that forms there with flat water. If you look for the condo named Bonita Beach Club you are there! FYI - there is a nudie beach on the north side of the channel. Many riders will start at Fort Myer's beach and do downwinders to Barefoot beach or all the way to Naples and then hop the tram to get back. There are quite a few regular kiters in this area and they are all very friendly.

I just returned from FLA. I kited at barefoot beach one day on a sw wind. It was real nice. Lots of people so I had to hike to get an open launch spot. Also kited a NE wind on Sanibel at the lighthouse beach. This is a great spot for east winds. Also saw guys pumping up along the causway where there is a little wayside type park on a what amounts to a skinny spit of land. There were other kiters out at Lighthouse and I had some great riding. Wind forecasts were understated so go to the beach with optimism. Tight lines!
