Searching for snow...

Post by wyatt »

I'm really feelin' the need to get out and kite this weekend - obviously all of the metro lakes are glazed over, but I'm curious if there's anyone out there who can report on any areas that survived the spring thaw this week.

I'm thinking about bringing my special lady up to Duluth in particular...any snow left on the lakes up there? What says "I love you" better than "let's go kiting...together"???

For all you bachelors out there, start taking notes, cause I got more where that came from.

Looks like north of Duluth along the shore received some snow today and its still snowing. At least according to NOAA. Any first hand reports of how far south the snow line went.

We are heading to Ashland tomorrow for Book Across the Bay. Bringing the kites hoping they got an inch or 2.

Well, depending on where you are and how far ya feel like traveling, Lake of the Woods still has lots of snow, although it is hardpacked. However, we received about 4 inches of powder last night with more on the way, so it should be gettin' good by next weekend. You can ride for miles and miles on L.O.W if you are so inclined, right Bryce?

Thanks for the info - made the trip up to Duluth on Saturday...after driving around from Wild Rice Lake to Island Lake to Boulder Lake and back to Rice, we bagged it and went snowboarding at Spirit Mountain. Each lake had snow covered coves, but if you got out on the main bays, it was about half an inch of fluffiness on top of sheer ice - no thanks.

Anyway, it was a valuable experience in that I learned true meaning of Valentine's Day which is all about spending time with your special lady - we got to do plenty of that, even if it was mostly in the car.

Paying for lift tickets sucks - let it snow!!!

I was in ely for my valentines day. And the lakes there that I was on seemed to have really good coverage. And over the weekend about 4" more came down. There is a good crust but that was sufficiently covered with fresh. I was just dogboarding but wishing I had my kite with.
