Come to Cabarete!!

Post by Debbie »

OK - so it's rained 6 out of the 6 days I've been here but at least there's been plenty of wind. If anyone likes waves, come join me - they are currently at 10 feet. It's a bit (o.k. so a lot) choppy out there but there are huge waves to get jumps on.

BTW: If you see my board in Cuba, let me know. I lost it out on the reef.

See ya all on the water soon.

You're already there!!!! We didn't even meet u since you left for Padre!!!!! Argh!!! Anyway, have fun over in Cabarete!!! Which board did you lose? The praying mantis green board? Since the waves are 10 feet high, get yourself a surfboard. See you this summer!!! Hugs!

Wow! Glad you were able to make it back to the Beach ok. Bummer about the board. I wonder if I could write a real-time module for Google Earth to try to find it. haha! I've always wanted to go to the DR. How long are you there again? Have fun hanging out with Laurel E.

I will be here until April 5 so come and visit me.

I miss seeing the Minnesota group here. There hasn't been the mass quantity of kiters this year so I practically have the ocean to myself. I'm sure that will change once the sun comes out and it warms up a bit.

As for my board, I think it's history. The current and waves were really weird that day so who knows where it is. I am going to buy a used North Jaime Pro board. She has written all over it in black magic marker though. Anyone know how to get it off?

Hi Debbie,

Sorry to hear about the rain and the board. Hopefully it's all uphill from here. I'm so jealous!

Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser works pretty well. Otherwise, the solvent in most permanent markers is Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), so that should work if you can find any of that. It's nasty stuff though, so be careful with it and make sure you don't drink any. It may have negative effects on the board material too, so I would applyl some on the corner or somewhere that doesn't matter to make sure whatever you use doesn't ruin the board material.

Good luck, Seth

Hey Debbie! If it's a sharpie, you can get it off with 100% rubbing alcohol... but needs a little force rubbing it off. If nothing works, bring it back to here... I have a ton of solvents in my lab plus... there is a chemical hood so you won't breathe any of the fumes :-)

SEEMED LIKE U WERE @ EVERY SESSION, then U vanished! Admire your courage to head to unknown waters alone. I'm sure you'll make plenty of friends down there. Bummer about your Skywalker, such a kool board. If you can get scotchbrite pads & use alcohol (not Cuervo) it'll cut thru it & the sun will fade the rest. Start swimming now, you'll be back in time for the Crossing, or maybe the spring thaw. I've heard the Jaime Pros are sweet. Color me green w/ envy & burnt out on winter.

Man Cabarete, how sweet is that!! Really sorry to hear about your board, bum deal I know how you feel though so don't feel alone, happens to everyone. Jim is right, your quite the adventurous person to get out in them waves by yourself, i get vervous around the beaches in Mexico, do you wear a life jacket when you are out riding?

Hope the weather gets better for you and your kiting days are better, good to hear from you again!!

Nice to hear from you Debbie! I'm thinking about it. Flights are $340 my bday week! Maybe Cabarete will make me feel young again...?

Thanks for the advice. I think I will wait til I get back to remove the marker when I'm in Eu Han's safe hands.

I don't wear a life vest here. I feel safer without one should someone drop a kite on me, I can duck under the water much quicker without one on. It can be a zoo out there. Yesterday was one of those days. I counted more than 60 kites out at once.

Katy, it will definitely make you feel younger! When is your birthday? I thought we celebrated at the end of the year party  $340 is a great deal.

Debbie,
That sounds sooo cool. You have to post some pictures.

I haven't been down there for 14 years - it's nice to see that the airfares are coming down.

Pictures. Pictures. Pictures! :D :D

Hi Debbie,
I was down there several yrs ago and it was choppy, lite wind then but what I would like to tell everone is that the left edge of the kiting area as you face the ocean has some like big cube rocks that you can catch and break a leg in the shore break. Jag

Usually takes about 6 weeks for a passport. Maybe next year!

It is really amazing here.

Pics? You really think I know how to work that high tech stuff? I'm blonde, remember.
