helmet radio advice?

Post by JanMarie »

I am interested in getting a helmet FRS radio or walkie-talkie so my husband and I can talk to each other on the ice or water without shouting at each other. I found various kinds and prices for various functions. We don't need fancy, but water-proof would be nice. Anyone use them? Tighe, do instructors use them with students? I haven't seen that. They must not be too useful there. Any suggestions?

I think the Headzone company is the most popular but I don't know where to buy them.

Try contacting Phillip Money @ Windsurf, Inc. SPI, TX. He uses helmet radios for his kiteboarding lessons. I have a water resistant Garmin 2-way/ GPS that can be used with other 2-way walkie talkies and takes a head set. I'll bring it to the Crossing. R U going?

Oh, Yea! We have our room booked at Garrison Inn & Suits already. I'll probably do the swap thing again since I am looking for a summer kite. I plan on registering this year. I thought you had to be a racer to register, but someone said we could register to support the event. (Maybe it was you, Jim). I want a room by the pool this year. I also want to ride a board. A friend is teaching me to snowboard tomorrow (in the rain  ) .

We ended up at EDDIES last yr. Going to see if the Casino has vacancies. Or maybe share a room @ Garrison with someone. Don't know if I'll compete. Last WET Crossing you could sign on as a Guest & get all the meals, etc. for less than full price. I'm enjoying the Ski boots I got from your Hubby last year. I think I mooched enough beer from you guys to pay for the entrance fee. Maybe you should charge a cover for your swap!

We use the Headzones for teaching and they work quite well. They are one way though.

There was another brand that promised two way communication but they've been having trouble getting off the ground. Haven't looked into it about 6mo.

search the net, maybe they are available now

The company Tighe is thinking about is VOZ sports. They had some promising talk of a water/snow helmet with two way communication, bluetooth, the works. It sounded two good to be true and it apparently was--I don't believe they ever released the helmet and they have gone out of business. With all the nerds we have in our kiting community, I bet we could make our own!

many walkie talkies have headset jacks and have voice activated on/off. Maybe just simple walkie talkie with small headsets with mic. Might be harder to find a waterproof set though
