Saturday at Nakomis??!!

Post by BizzMarkie »

Hey all,

Sat is looking like it should be nice all day!
I was thinking about going to Nakomis around 11 since i have heard about so many riders already going there.

For some reason i cant get my sign on to work from my home computer so i can only read posts and not comment on anything.
If people are going to be out and about i would love to know where and/or how to get a hold of you.
Dont want to venture out by myself or with just one other person.

Also I dont know where all the hot spots are at yet.

Hope to get some tips and the energy up for the weekend!
Looks like a great one all three days!

I'll be there around the same time. I can't wait to try out my new Flow bindings. My old Burton "bra" style bindings have been nothing but trouble. Maybe its my big feet.

Hey seamonkey...we should meet up.

I live right by HWY 100 and HWY 7 in St Louis Park so it wont take me time at all to get over to the lake.
I am somewhat familiar with the area, but where do you park and rig???

This will be my first time riding on a frozen lake, so any prep talk or tips would be highly appreciated.

Shoot me an e-mail or give me a call at 309-369-3323.

Thanks man
Mark

I am getting really antsy to try out my new T3.

Not to rain on your parade, but SE isn't the best direction for Nokomis. It lines up better SW or NE. I'd consider other options, like Swede or WBL

Yes, Tighe, you are correct. Nokomis is oriented NE by SW. Last time I heard, White Bear still had open water and I don't think newbies on ice want to venture that way, myself included. I just thought a small, in town lake would be a more safe experience, but turbulance and gusts could also be a problem I am sure. Winters was out last night and it was not ideal northerly, but the wind was cranking. In my opinion, ther will be enough wind from the south to ride at Nokomis. Are you kiting Saturday? There is always strength in numbers as far as safety goes. We all have wheels. Would you recommend Swede for SE?

All of the posts about open water and sink holes made me think that Nakomis would be the choice also.

But just like Mike wrote, we have wheels and i would be more than happy to drive anyone that needs a ride(also i wont get lost that way :D )

I would be up for Swede...how far is that from here???
If mike F gets those rails set up I REALLLLLY want to go!

I couldnt have put it better than mike...safety in numbers for us green horns is always thought of first.

Plus its way more fun with more people.

Let me know your thoughts on where the fun will be kicking off and i will be there.

I'm planning on Nokomis Saturday. Might not be the best wind direction, but it's close to where i live and should be pretty frozen. Hope to see some other out there.

I will leave the hood and skip Nokomis tomarrow and go to "White"bear Lake instead. 10 to 14 will not be enough for SE. I was thinking 20 plus might be barely do-able. Like we have been instructed, Ramsey is the call.

I am going to drill and inspect Calhoun on Saturday. It popped a week ago.

If too thin I'll try SPB.

Be careful on calhoun and don't go it alone. Let us know what you find. I havent even seen anyone fishing out there yet.

Yesterday I was high up on a building on Calhoun and it does not look safe yet. Be careful. There are a ton of cracks (which can be good) and a lot of black areas. Be careful!

Swede does work on a SE, almost blwoing staight onshore to where the acces is. I am heading out there in a little bit here to get the rails setup and shoveld in. Then I plan to ride them. Dont worrie about the ice either its 8-9" at least, we were kiting it with ice skate the day after thanks giving and the whole lake had 5-6" aross it then. We shoveld a ice rink and played hockey last night. From shoveling the rink I know the snow is pretty decently bonded now. I should be there untill afternoon but may have to leave, My wife is due Dec 31st so I may get the call at anytime now to runnn...

I never got out on Calhoun today. The cracks and dark spots came after the snow pushed the thin ice down and have been there for a week. I saw a skier on it last Wednesday. But no one has inspected it yet so no one really knows the story. Maybe Sunday I'll get a read.
