Snowboard for kiting question
Hi guys,
Its that season again, and I am looking for a new board to snowkite in.
I don't want to mess up my current snowboarding board, and I have heard people say to just pick up a cheap used snowboard to kite with.
I just wanted to pick your brains about what to look for in a cheap board that would differ from my current snowboard.
Should I go with the same size, or would smaller = less friction?
Any advice would be great as I see there are a lot of boards on Craigslist and I am trying to narrow it all down.
Thanks,
Michelle

Re: Snowboard for kiting question
Yo Michelle
Hope your leg is all the way better!
It seems only fitting that i offer some advice about the only aspect of this sport that I have some good knowledge about....BOARDS!
After all you have helped me immensely with my kiting questions
I have been riding on many different boards in many different places around the world and i would say that there is no real answer, boards are like kites in the wind, you really need a different one per conditions.
I would say it really depends on what you want to do this winter...
If it is free style with big boosts and turns, def go with a shorter board.
The shorter the board you get the faster you will spin, BUT you will go slower.
The theory of a short board having less friction is all just a myth, its actually the exact opposite!
If you want to cruise and haul ass then get a long board.
I have a 161 burton Cruiser for deep snow and fast long runs.
I use a 154 Burton Custom for jibbing and free style tricks.
I would check out brands names on Craigs list... kind be kind of sketchy.
Also if you are trying to get a NICE board for cheap check out the following websites.
They only do one deal at a time, but they are super cheap...kind of like QVC for your computer.
I have actually seen Slingshot kites on these sites for like 300 brand new....NO JOKE!!!
Cant wait to get out there and ride with you soon.....any thoughts for the weekend????????

Re: Snowboard for kiting question
I would look for a board thats a tru-twin and is a little wider than your used to, those are key features to have for snowkiting! . for sizing Id say it depends on where you are riding or I mean what type of snow or conditoins you will be in . if your going to be in Powdder than a little bit bigger is nice but if you will be in MN prob just need your regular size or small .. hope this helps .
Re: Snowboard for kiting question
Thanks guys,
I am planning on doing a Montana and Colorado roadtrip over the Christmas period, so I guess I will be looking more at powder than ice.
I'll take a look at those websites and see what is on there.

WELCOME BACK! If you want to actually compare boards 1st hand, go see my friends at THE HOUSE. They have the largest selection, bar none, in the Midwest, great prices & help sponsor this site. Say, "HI" to the Seans for me.

Check out the Gnu banana boards with magna traction. They have a corrugated edge with 7 contact points for icy conditions. Riders love them. I'm saving up for one now.

Re: Snowboard for kiting question
actually LIb tech makes the skate bannana and Gnu just came out with the Pickle , but yea they are all mervin manfacturing same thing(kinda)
rossi came out with the j-dub which has it also it.

the park pickle still isnt even out yet but soon
http://gnu.com/index.php/2008/12/mervin ... ark-pickle
Mikes Right, if you can get ahold of one of the twin shape, reverse camber(rocker) boards with Magne traction its by far one of the best boards on the market for kitesnowboarding and snowboarding !
remember twin shape and wide are important factors when finding a kitesnowboard!.

Re: Snowboard for kiting question
Hi Nathan! Sorry to be such a sorry sport the last time I posted regarding skates. It took me awhile to accept the fact that I am back in Minnesota. I worked all summer and now I am officially, " laid off ". My former employer in Seattle would hire me back, but I have this wife and 2 dogs issue. Anyway, the board I really want is the Rider's Choice. The House has 1 or 2, but will not last long. Until then I am stuck with my big mountain 172 and 167 powder boards. I think you should try snowkiting Mt.Hood at Timberline or the Mt.Bachelor event this winter. I'll be lucky to make it as far as Mt.Haggin. Ride safe and I'll see you in the Hood!

OH SURE, while the rest of "US" (read U.S.=Yanks) pay exorbitant prices, SHE gets the BRITCHICK discount! Chris warned me, you Aussies stick together. I say we banish her to KIWILAND.

I just have so many answers for you Jim, but Tighe will delete them all
Needless to say Michele is much cuter than you, she's a brit, smarter than both of us, but all said and done Jim your ass is too big for this board!. It's for diminutive small people like you were when you were 10.

FAIR DINGUM, YA WANKA! I can't believe it took over 5 hours to get a rise out of you! I have to agree on the cuter & smarter part though. How come they always move away? (Unless, like you, you marry them.) I want to blame the climate, & not MN males being such "nice" guys. Guess we'll appreciate them while they're here. Glad U R geting rides out on Cedar. Hope Nancy enjoys the new stick!

Only American men left for her to date, the brits are all taken, of course she's going to move away. What else could she do?
