I'll be making my way there late afternoon/eve on Friday. May have room for a co-pilot and another hitchhiker. I drive a 4 door truck. I'm currently learning hyper-miling tactics to increase gpm but haven't really gained a lot of ground.

Haven't shored up accomodations yet either. I'm leaning towards camping and interested in results of Carlsona availability, it sounds perfect. I've heard of kite runs to and from there as well as it being a good evening recap location. Even if I pitched my tent on uneven ground I won't care, less concerns for having an extra beverage or two if I don't have to drive. I'm happy to call the owner of Carlsona but haven't met him and wouldn't have the shmooze-ability one of you who know him would. It sounds like a good reason for me not to call him but I'll be happy to pitch the idea to him if there is support that it's ok. I'll make it a point to get to know him and be in line to call him next year.

My tent sleeps 8 but I think they mean little people (of course I'm 6'6" and I'm certain that wasn't used in their occupancy equation). So there is some shelter for a few if needed - given there is a place to stake down. My back up plan is an air matress in the bed of my truck. Not sure if that's a decent option. I have a tonneau cover to keep the skeets to a minimum but I may get an entombed feeling. I think I'll call for a camp spot just in case. There was a spot I'll Goog for that was within walking distance of Malmo.

Looks like there is fun to be had!

Just got back from a very tasty dinner at Carlsona. We talked to Ron and he is excited about the coming weekend. He really appreciates the business, and enjoys having the action for spectators. His main concern is the parking issue.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO STAY THE NIGHT: Try to park in a place that is as out of the way as possible (against the fence to the east is good). He also said that we could park down closer to the beach than the parking lot. He is planning to mow the grassy area to the south east of the parking lot for camping / parking. The trail down there is a bit rough, so make sure your car can do it before venturing down there. If you’re planning to camp, make sure to clean up so we can have this place for years to come. Bring your own trash bags, and pack up your tent during the day, so it doesn’t look like a hippie convention at Carlsona. Try to keep the noise at a reasonable level, keeping in mind there are neighbors close by.

Above all, make an effort to personally thank Ron and the staff for the great place he has provided for us on very short notice. Next year we will have to try to remember to warn him earlier about our plans.

The wind fairies seem to be cooperating, so it should be fun. Hope to see everyone at Reddy on Friday and Malmo on Saturday, the way it's looking.

P.S. Red Hook is on tap!!!! Anna also recommends the Brandy Alexander for a tasty ice cream treat. It’s HUGE.

*Will also post this info in a separate thread

Tighe,

Nice shirts! Maybe add a few new Lakawa sayings:

"May the wind always be at your backside not from it."
"Call Lakawa to get dialed in"
"Stoke it or smoke it"
"Lift here if you want to see some big ass kiting bruises!"
On shorts..."Where do you think the term "Donkey Dick" came from?"
"Pull the chicken loop don't choke it"
"I wish I had Randy's work hours"
"I have no regard for my body--that's why I kite!"
"Don't fear the front hand!"
"I get so high!--- and I like to kite too."
"I'll always be a newbie"

 Too late about the backside but I'd buy the T shirt.

How about.....
It's the angle of the dangle.
Just plain loopy
my favourite bar has a kite attached
pull my strings, I'm a kiter
you can choke a chicken but you can't make a chicken loop.

Do we have permission to camp Friday night at Carlsona as well (or just Saturday night)?

I just talked to Eric. He says that he didn't ask Ron specifically about Friday and Saturday, but it should be ok both days *as long as the tents are packed up during the day*.

Also, given that I can't ride much, I am available to shoot pictures and footage the whole weekend if people are willing to let me use their cameras. It depends how much the equipment goes for on Ebay. hehe, just kidding. I am bringing my still shooter, but if you want some pics of yourself on your camera, just come find me.

So, where is exactly gathering? Is it Malmo, or Father Hennepin State Park? I am going there first time.

drive up 169 out of Rogers to Onamia and turn right on 27 at the DQ. Follow that to Malmo and take the left at the liquor store and follow the road 1/4 mi until it veers right but you go straight and follow that road to the lake and you'll see us.
