Hi
I have arrived in Minneapolis for 10 days from the U.K. and don't want to make a fatal mistake - are the city lakes (Calhoun or Harriet or Nikomis) kite-skiable yet? I don't know if I can persuade my wife to drop me at Minnetonka.
Also, I bought short skis and skates with me - can someone tell me if there is enough snow for skis yet?
Many thanks and apologies for the newbie questions. Happy Christmas and New Year to everyone.

I just came off Medicine Lake. 12 inches of ice. Small patches of thin snow on very smooth ice.... 90% bare ice. Rough ice for 200 feet along the southern shore.
I would expect any of the city lakes to have over 8 inches of ice now. Pretty safe. On any lake expect thinner ice near inlets and outlets.
The only place I've heard of good snow cover is near Duluth and farther north along Lake Superior.
Enjoy!
