Ice report from south of the river.

Post by dave t »

Probably not many care about the wastelands south of the MN River but I chescke Prior Lake and Lake Marion on my way home from work.
Both are at 2 1/2+ to about 50 feet out which was past any shoreline crust and as far as I wanted to go by myself carrying only a big rock to break test holes. (I didn't plan this mission)

I looks like the ice froze all at once! Just one big continuous sheet of crystal clear glass! I have never seen a full sized lake freeze that nice. I know many are looking for snow but it would be better for everyone if it held off for a couple weeks for the blade riders and to freeze really well.

Post by paul_r »

Hi Dave T

My buddy and I were out on lake Marion today with ice skates and kites. It was great! There were Ice frisherman out there and they said the ice was about 4 inches thick. Afterwords we went to Toco Bill and met you brother Erin Were going out tomorrow again. Hope to see you there.

Paul and Gary.

Isn't Crystal pretty much a nightmare for swirly, unpredictable wind?

I took my daughter skating on Marion and the ice was like glass with maybe a few bumps from the crystalizing ice. Checked the thickness and it was 4 1/2 inches but i'm sure it is more now.
