What would be the best choice for windsurfing this weekend around the Twin Cities? I believe it’ll blow south and Ramsey will certainly be the choice for hundreds of boats and jet-skis. Unfortunately I can’t drive to Mille Lacs.
Waconia was a real zoo yesterday at the beach. More kiters than I care to remember. Way too many for that spot. If you want to avoid crowds, head to Lake Washington. I have never seen it crowded.
From what I've seen on lakes in the sw suburbs, boat traffic really picks up around 2-5. Of course that is usually the best wind time too. As I'm still learning, I mostly stick to Lake Minnewashta. Not too many boats on the lake, but it is smaller than the other lakes people use. About the only thing you have to watch out for on that lake are the float planes that land on the lake. When you see one coming, you better get out of the center of the lake.
