As Dave S. mentioned, the inventor of the Snowfer is coming down on Feb 1&2. He has a kite version of the Snowfer called the Uniboard, that looks very interesting. It looks like a snowboard with an vertical edge on the bottom, much like the Snowfer. The following video shows it holding fairly well on the glare ice as well as having a controled sideslide when desired. It works on snow, crude, and ice.

Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town till the 8th, but I hope some of the local kiters can get a chance to put this board to the test that weekend. If you do, post your review here.
Hope I return to find deep snow, till then I'll be on ( and off) the water.
The search for the ultimate kite ice vehicle continues...

More details:
Charles Chepregi from Ontario, inventor of the patented Snowfer (snowboard windsurfer) for winter windsurfing, and the now the UniBoard (universal snowboard) for winter kiteboarding, is coming to the Twin Cities to conduct clinics, provide demo rides and answer your questions.
Saturday 2/1 Kite Island, Lake Minnetonka 12 noon
(See Lakes Section for a map. Drive to the island on the ice, from the marina in Wayzata.)
Sunday 2/2 Lake Calhoun 12 noon
Charles’ design philosophy includes the notion that a single board should cover the entire range of conditions from bare ice to deep snow.

Just wondering if you can drive out to kite island or if it's advisable to walk.
