A Federal Crime

Post by ChristianS. »

Here is what comes out of my passion for wind

Wednesday looked like a good afternoon for dropping into the St.Croix river at Hudson to windsurf, so I left work early, got the van, and went to the public beach. Everything was roped off due to the the President's visit. He had just left , but his private party and all the TV stations were still around. No biggie - I went north of there to a small boat ramp, rigged up a well down hauled 8.0 and blasted out on the river. On the first tack past the public beach I looked back and saw two police boats with armed security people in bullet proof vests shouting at me to stop immidiately. The next 15 minutes were intense honing of my negotiation skills trying to convince a 250 lb. armed bulley that it was impossible to immidiately move in the direction he wanted me to go, without making a tack. However one of his collegues seemed to grasp the idea of tacking upwind and let me go, however, following me closely. I was close to suggesting that they should have brought Kerry here instead so that I could have had a windsurfing buddy, but decided it was probably best to shut up and be humble. I got back to the boat ramp a little miffed that my afternoon was spoiled. I decided to walk back to town in harness and all to ask a policeman if I could go out again. He said he had heard on his radio that some idiot had been stopped appraoching the presidential party from the river, but all was clear now. So I walked back and had a blast until the sun went down.

In Denmark we would have called it a royal mess, so what do you call it here.

Jeez, and I thought Dub-ya's little jaunt down I-94 gave me a headache! I wondered to myself while taking my "dub-ya" imposed detour if anyone was out attempting to sail the St. Croix while in the vicinity of El Presidente's presence. I figured they would have the river shut down as well. The last time I got chased off the St. Croix by the local Sheriff was in '91 before a 4th of July Fireworks display....

Windsurfers might find more of that if Kerry is elected. They will shut down Hatteras for the day so he can fly down in Marine 1 (the helicopter) and catch a nice solo session like in the gorge. He got the Columbia shut down and is just a candidate.
