HI-
I am headed to a relative's summer home on Lake Michigan, down in the Southeast corner of the lake. Does anone have any experience with this location?
I hope to get a lot of practice at beach starts>>leading to>>water starts. Does anyone know of an online source of underwater topography info (depth maps) for this area? I have been there once before, but that was pre-wind addiciton, so I didn't investigate the surf-ability back then.
Thanks for any help.

...at the beach house
I'm at lake Michigan now, and the shore break is pretty rough. Yesterday, there wasn't even enough wind to lift my 10.4, let alone myself, but I bobbed around in the 2-3 foot waves for a while just to get an idea of what I was up against. When winds improve and I manage to get on the board and moving, I will be attempting to follow Coach's advice on getting through shore break (on Park Point). Or maybe I will do the reverse walk of shame - have my host tow me out with his wave runner.
The house has a 25' x 25' flat, grassy, wind-shielded rigging area. Perfect.
I stood my rig on the deep soft sand beach to practice rig balance and find the CE ( right at the "dot" in loftsails.com) and adjust my harness lines to about 10" on each side of that point.
Someday, I will use harness lines. It is my dream.
The beach and near shore bottom is all white sand, depth is variable and shifting due to wave action, but seems to stay deep enough to clear a fin.
This is all over my head, but howya gonna learn if you don't try, eh?
