LAKE CALHOUN
Is anyone going out to the Lake tomorrow at any particular time? I have never been out there and would like to get out and do some Kite boarding, if there is snow or just slap my skates on and tear up the lake!!!
I don't mean to sound pessimistic but; if there is any lake you should NOT go to for kiting is Calhoun if you are learning.
Here are a few reasons why:
o It's super gusty on certain wind directions
o The snow sucks (not so much the ice). The snow is VERY dirty
for some reason. I think it's from being so close to a city.
If you are riding a snowboard on the lake and see the brown
stuff you'll know what I mean.
o There are roads next to the lake on every corner. This has two results:
o You will try to impress folks on these roads
o Your loose kite will end up on one of these roads
(hint: don't hang around local, the best wind is out west!)

Hey Scott, Sorry to sound so down on hitting Calhone.
If you have a way to fly your kites without getting to close to the edge..

I also want to get out on my maiden kite voyage this weekend.
I was thinking about going out to Waconia, or wherever people are. Could always use a hand to get started!
Where would be the best place to go and can you use skies at all or are skates to prefer if there's no snow?
Hope to get out for the first time and maybe meet up with someone.
Let me know what's going on!
Thanks,
Tom

after Mikes post it looks like Cannon is the only place within an hour that has snow on the lakes. Bill S. said there are numerous lakes to the west of there as well that are snow covered.
The winds may be quite strong tomorrow morning, but I may head down there around noon tomorrow.
see Lakes section for Cannon.

Thanks for the advice Eric.
I'm not really a beginner, just have not got the guts up enough to do any serious jumping, the ice can really hurt. I think I will stick to Goose Lake right behind my place out here in Champlin, the wind is usually constant and not really gusty at all. Although the lake is not totally snow covered people Cross Country ski around it, they have made a nice trail where the snow is, so other than them I have it all to myself all day. If anyone is interested in the lake my number is 763-712-1347, I will be out on it from 12:00 to about 3:30 tomorrow. Anyone can call and leave me a voice mail tonight until about 10:30 if interested. I go to the gym from 6 to about 7:30 or 8 tonight, so if I do get any calls i will call back at 8:30 or 9. I will be checking my emails too tonight.
