I live in Iowa and in my town people have never heard of kite surfing. Does any one have and suggestions on what i should do? My cousin Vojta said that I get on the internet and surf around and hopefully find something or someone. Any suggestions would be great...

Thanks

Hopefully some of the guys who ride in Iowa will post a reply. There are a few experienced riders in the Okaboji area and I think one down in the Demoines area who check in here every so often. Casey? Jesse?

Hey Drew. Next weekend there is a windsurfing event in Worthington mn,it's very close to IA. I'd be willing to bet that some Kiters are going to be there. You could learn something from them.

Drew,

I think you would be the 5th Iowan to get into kiting, so come join the fun. The three of us in Boji (yes, murph is back and Jesse and myself) have been having an incredible spring. This should be evident by the lack of postings from down here. I know that Alf is kiting on Saylorville in Des Moines if your looking for somewhere closer to Creston. I haven't met Alf in person but he's a friend of a friend so I could find his number if you would like it.

And for anyone else, if you're a kiter and in Worthington this weekend. Come on over to Spirit/Boji and ride with us. Give me a call 712-330-3020 to see where we are.

Yeah Casey I probably would be the 5th person to be a kiter in Iowa. But hey that sounds like a great idea. My next door neighboor owns a cabin up there on the Western part of the lake so next time i go up i'l post a new topic or something....

Thanks

Drew,

just got off the phone with Vojta, he said you were looking for a small foil. Post something here asking if anyone has one. Also call the retailers listed in the kiting section, they may have some deals. Also check ikitesurf.com. If you find something that sounds good, you can ask this community someone probably has ridden one and could give you a review.

good luck

Casey,

If the wind is good on Fri/Sat/Sun, some of us are likely to see you guys over at Spirit as you suggested. You should hop over to Worthington in the evenings for the music and partying, as well - should be a good time...

Hopefully we'll see you this weekend at some point.

Hey Drew,
I live in Des Moines and have been kiting at Saylorville and Big Creek. I have managed to find about 4-5 other guys here in the DM area that are into kiting. Four of us have kites and I have been out a few times with Ulf and Ryan. We are all pretty much beginners in various stages.
My wife's family is originally from Creston, but we don't get down there much. Are there some good lakes for kiting down there? I'm not too familiar with that area.
You are always welcome to come up here and join us on the lake anytime. Currently Saylorville is a little full and there is lots of debris, so I am looking for some better lakes. Was thinking of a day trip to Clear Lake or Spirit.
I'll post if I think I'm going.
If you're looking for a good used 13m Slingshot GTO, One of the guys here has one for sale.
Looking forward to meeting you soon.
