Anyone sail at Lake St Croix beach ??

Post by chg »

Looking for some sailing advice..

What wind directions work there?

Parking ? I seem to remember that one has to drop gear off and park away from the river?

Straight North is the best direction there, but NNW and NNE will work. The bluffs ruin any other wind direction. There is a public parking lot one block from the beach. They charge $5 during the swimming season. Good luck!

South will also work. That's were we used to sail (late 80's) before "they" moved the parking. In a South the only problem is the shorter fetch. Plus, you have better options like Brown's Beach in North Hudson or the Bear for that wind direction.

Can you give me more info on "Browns beach" ?

Is this the launch where you drop off gear at the river and park on top ??

Yup. In North Hudson there are two launches both off of Gallahad Road (I think) - Browns Beach and Fairy Landing. For both of them you need to park your car a little ways away. Straight South or North winds are best.

Directions: Take 35 N. Turn left on Sommers Street. Take Sommers till you can go no further. For Fairy Landing turn right on Gallahad for Browns turn Left.
