I guess Kiteboarding is not a crime

Post by Peter C »

I met with a Hearing Officer today, about my citation for kiting on Calhoun last month. After a 1 1/2 hour wait, I presented my case and he threw out the $130.00 ticket.

I told the Hearing Officer that when I called the park police they said the "Ice Not Safe" signs are up all winter to rid them of any ice safety liabillity. I showed him the picture of Mayor Rybak in the City of Lakes Loppet on the ice( thanks Tighe). I gave him copies of the DNR and Army Corps of Engineers ice safty guidlines which show we only need 4 inches of ice to walk on it. And I showed him a search of the Minneapolis Park Board website for Ice Safety. There is no ice safety info on their website.
I said my 10 inch ice screw never hit water, so I knew it was thick enough.

He said I met the wrong cop on the wrong day.

PS. Brian I asked about your citation and he said you need to see him on your own. His name is Art ask for him at Henn. Co. and he'll do the same for you.

JUSTICE !

Too bad you had to waste your time off of work to get cleared.

I got nailed in a crosswalk sting in Hood River once
and rather than fight it I figured I would support the city
and pay my fine.
(an elderly lady was killed the week before in the same crosswalk)

The trip back for my court date would have cost 5 times the ticket.

Well approached Peter. Working with government can be extremely frustrating but every once and awhile you get someone with reason.

Glad that you got off, but sad, I was so looking forward to your posts from sing sing.
I figured with one boardhead in jail ,making the sacrifice, we were in for one hell of a windy spring.
Oh well .
Seriously I'm happy you found a logical person in Government service, bit of an oxymoron.
I'm trying to think if I have ever heard of logic prevailing ever before when gov. was involved.
Any examples anyone?
If I'm sounding cynical I apologize, I always get this way around tax time.

Congratulations! I hope this is an isolated incident. Maybe it has to do with the current budget crunch?
