Joe and I were out on WBL a couple of years ago on pure black ice in a lot of wind (30-40?). I was going at least 60... and Joe was passing me easily! He was certainly in 70mph territory.

I wonder what the ice-kiting speed record is and if we could beat out the ice-boats (which have clocked over 100mph).

Post by Jim N »

WINTER B-4 LAST I WUZ FULLY CRANKED ON MY ICE BOARD(I THOUGHT)TOTALLY SHEETED IN AND STRAINING AY THE STRAPS..I HEARD A WHOOSHING SOUND OVER MY SHOULDER AND RECOGNIZED JOE GAINING ON ME JUST UPWIND..I WENT BACK TO STOKING AS MUCH SPEED AS I COULD MUSTER...& TOOK MY EYES OF J.L. FOR JUST A FRACTION OF A SECOND...I LOOKED UP FROM MY SPOT OFF BELLAIRE TO SEE HIM ALREADY MAKING HIS TURN ON THE FAR SHORE BY MAHTOMEDI...WOW, THAT DUDE SMOKES!!! MAKES ME THINK WE COULD FIND A PLACE ON THE ICE WITH RADAR GUNS AND GPS'S AS BACK -UP AND SET SOME RECORDS OF OUR OWN....THEN SEND OUR OWN REP TO SPEED WEEK :!:

That's going to be a hard one to beat. You can't really put a sail on a water ski! The windsurfers might as well bag it. I thought foils were supposed to be faster than tubes.?

April Fools Joke

Post by AndyF »

Looks like we all fell for the joke. Here is what was posted today on the Flysurf.com page.... Jonny leading the April Fools band wagon.....

***************************************************
49.54 knots: Cory Roeseler’s new world record

Lots of you weren’t fooled, others (we mention no names…) went for it hook line and sinker. Yes, sorry folks, that Cory Roeseler record was our jolly 2004 April Fool!!!

A big thank you to the man himself, Cory Roeseler, to John Burton, head of marketing at Gaastra Kites, and to Pascal Maka, Masters of Speed race director, all of whom were in on the gag and played their parts to perfection.

As I said, no names mentioned, lets just say that a fair few of the recognised speed merchants - kite and windsurf varieties - spent a hard day grinding their teeth after reading our piece.
By the way, your shoe lace is undone….

Sucker

Post by steveb »

If you are a sucker Johnny don't feel bad, I think most of us who read Lakawa probably fell for it.
:x However If I have to be a sucker I can't think of better company than a bunch of boardheads.

Hook,Line & Sinker

Post by Jim N »

 Wow, is my face RED!! I bought into it, Totally. In retrospect, I agree Kiters literally fly on ice and snow, but have easily outpaced most of even the best Kiters I know on the water. Not to brag(ha,ha) & I guess part of it is that the goal doesn't always appear to be speed, but rather all those cool moves and manouvers you guys (& gals) pull off. JIM (d'stooge)N.
