Deep Thoughts:
I'll be back,,to explain. O-kay I'm back.
Now, what I mean to say is: We've got all these lakes, we claim to be an aquatic people yet, there's just no place to rent windsurf/kiteboarding gear at a
permanent site,,,like on the beach! Yes, we've got windsurf/kiteboard mobile units avaliabe to set up tempory shop at different lakes. For example Jeff Adamski,
with his truck with gear, or the Long haired "Cool Dude" named Thomas? with his bilingual windsports operation ready to come in, or that Stand up Paddle board/ windsurf shope
up North near Nashua, MN? And we do have our Web Master "Mike" who will set you up with good gear and good lessons for Kiteboarding! I've sent some people to him and they were
happy with the results!
But really, why don't we have boardshops on the beach at our 10,000 lakes? There are canoe/kayak and "Tubing" rentals.
Are we really Minnesotas or not?
Is it that we're too afraid of insurance issues?
Chime in if you have any thoughs or recommendations how we can get our beaches to have windsurf/kiteboarding shops at the beaches and not have to rely on just "mobile surf units."

I think the "long haired bilingual cool dude" you are referring to is Jonathan Townsend.
The reason there are no rental shops is they wouldn't be economical as the cost to stock them with gear would be too much to make a return because you wouldn't have enough renters, or the renters that you would get would all be novices (experienced windsurfers already own gear) who would damage your equipment. C'mon Eric! Think about it!!!!

Mike (Man from Madrid), thanks for your post...and yes later I did remember the last name of Townsend (like the lead guitar player of "The Who)."
But anyway,,the main theme here....If you use Deviators on boards,,the beginners won't break the boards. Why does Corpus Christi have a windsurf shop (Worldwinds).
Why does South Padre Island, have Windsurf Inc. and Air Padre Kiteboarding? Why does New Jewsey have Extreme Windsports on the Jersey Shore? Why does Hood River have a dozen Windsport shops?
Why not in Minneapolis/St. Paul? We can make this work and avoid gear breakage. Please read my Deviator Post on (the classified section). Deviators DO Work!
I inadvertantly put my "Deviator" pitch on the classified section. Anyway Deviators DO protect the nose of windsurf boards. the idea that there won't be enough
renters, well "That's Got to change!" Why do people rent canoes, or Kayaks,, or rent inner tubes to go tubing! We just need to be more inventive in how to get the Windsurf way of life"
across to people.

No they don't always have consistant wind. Hood River get's it's overheated periods of Summer Doldrums (late July or August)
and As Dave Nunn has said,,"it just shuts down the wind!" Pete: the first time you went to "La Ventana" you had NO wind for the first four days? Finally you and Gregg had to rent a Bic Techno 152
liter board in order to get some planning in. Say it ain't so,, but I saw your pictures of the events of your first trip there. I know you had fantastic wind there on subsequent trips. Chris Brown
when he sailed there with Gregg A. in Feb. 2015 said he only had wind for "Two Days" at La Ventana.
Padre Island gets it's wind, "Turned off" as well. Most of January is close to zero for wind as well as Aug-through October, (winds shuts down). (June not much good either).
Even Hawaii Get's it's Doldrums. I've been there and experienced Doldrums (means no wind) in Hawaii and North and South Padre. I've had the worst wind and the Best wind!
It's hard to believe,,,but Southern Mn. is one of the Windiest places in the country! And that's the facts, Mam and Man, just the facts!
Let's celebrate and appreciate the wind we have!
