Ever since I started windsurfing (2001) it seemed like the sport of Windsurfing was on the decline,,always, even from "my start." It still feels that way.
I went to THE HOUSE in month of June,,nobody around, JC was mildly interested in talking about windsurfing. A phone call came in and JC said, Well, I'm not interested in teaching her windsurfing."
There just wasn't much enthusiasm going on. I must add though J.C. (of The House) DID fix the old 12 ft. Hyfly board that I bought used so that I could practice my first year of windsurfing.
J.C. also trimed the neck gasket on my dry suit so that I could use it in cold water.
But, windsurf shops just kept steadly disappearing over the years. This may be a United States thing, this decline or lack of stamina to keep up a good sport and the desire to jump to something else.
We know that Windsurfing is more popular than ever in Europe and Japan and Australia.
Well, THE TIME HAS COME to "rename" the sport of windsurfing. In the beginning late 70's even in 1980-81 it was called "Sailboarding."
In Worthington, the big sign where the National Windsurfing completion takes place doesn't say windsurf beach,,,the big sign on the fence at the beach reads: "SAILBOARD BEACH."
So, I come up with a new name to spur new interest. I suggest the term, "WINGBOARDING." Yes a single wing standing vertical on a windsurf board.
So,,,,yes you use a windsurf board, windsurfing sail and windsurf boom and U-joint,,,but you call it Wingboarding, because it is really a wing standing vertical.
Some years ago at the end of a windsurfing session at Lake Cannon,, a man riding his back came over to me and said, "I saw your wing just whipping across the lake!"
I liked that!
Wingboarding on the rise!

O-Kay: I understand that there is a growing sport which involves being straped to a wing (person or a "dummy") strapped to topside of wing
and being pulled by an airplane up into to sky!
Oh well.
Maybe I'll just call my sport Sailboarding/Windsurfing. When there's just a light wind,,then your're sailboarding (just sailing along). But when it's really windy,,,then
you're Windsurfing (waves are out and you're hydroplaning or surfing).
So... the most appropriate term (in my opinion) is to call the sport both: thus: Sailboarding/Windsurfing on the Rise!
