The Sea was Angry again that day my friends. Excuse me...I'll have to come back to this,,,They're coming for me!
I'll be back!
OK, I'm back. Now....Back in Late October (one Thursday afternoon in 2017) Pete G. and I had a pretty close to an
epic day of windsurfing. After several hours of sailing on my 5.2 Panther and 103 liter F2 board, Pete left around 6:30 pm
and I was all set to leave the Pt. around dark..7:30ish. I was standing on the rocks getting al last look at the still "Angry Sea" (Lake Pepin, at The Point). when gravity took power over me. As I was about to fall onto the big rocks (probably have major damage to unprotected head and other bones,,Just before impact I pushed off one big rock with my foot so that I would land
in the water and not on the sharp rocks! Thus: this windsurfer ended up back in the water! (in the dark) and not with my dry suit on but my winter clothes on. Shoot! I was all wet in my street winter clothes and the air temp. was in the low 40's.
I climbed out of the water, crawled up the side of hill up to the Point's parking lot. I knew I had to work fast now...de-rig sail and put board in car. Around 8:00pm Police officer "Mike" came walking by (a walking policeman on the beat) and he proceeded to have a conversation with me while I packed up my car all the while in wet clothes and pretending that I wasn't wet! We had a nice chit-chat about boats and fishing and windsurfing
and I was not about to let him know that I had fallen into the water. I think he never realized that I was soaking wet! He several times shinned his flashlight into inside of my car so that I could carefully store board and sail and boom and mast in the car. (I never told Pete G. about my falling into the water,so Pete, if you're reading this, well now you know!)
I really wasn't very cold, I had on my long underwear, jeans two sweaters and sweatshirt and Winter ski coat and winter cap on (which was all wet). It was just my pride that was damaged a little, OH and cell phone and wallet got wet. I didn't really want to have to get a new cell phone (but I did) and the old wallet,,well this was a good excuse to get a new wallet! Much better.
I DO believe that I made the right decision to dive for the water and not let my skeleton make hard contact with the big boulders.
We are Sailors...and we know "water" is often a safer place than "hard, rocky dry land!"
Windsurfing on the Rise and Hydro-foiling too!
Quetzalcoatl out.

Oh yeah,,one more detail....I took off my soaking wet socks and tennis shoes and put on
my dry "flip-flops." At least something was dry. That was warmer.
Eric out.
