Windsurfing will start up again in February of 2018.
This means,,,with a just a day or two of above 32 degrees F. air temp.,The Mighty Missisip. will open up with a good swath of open water (no ice) measuring
about 150 yards wide and a safe mile of length. This segment of river is "just" below Camp La-Coup-O-Lous (I'm completely wrong on spelling, but who cares?).
Located just below Camp La-coop and Reeds Landing, MN. This segment of river is upstream from where The Chippewa River (coming out of Wisc.) empties large chunks of ice.
That's why you stay upstream! This works good on SE wind, NW wind and maybe West wind. But on S our N wind you're subjected to wind shift like crazy! Wind just gets swirled around
and change direction every 10 seconds and you look like your out there just doing piruettes (swirlies) the whole time on N or S winds. Sometimes you get a good blast of wind for a couple minutes
and you go charging upstream at 25 mph...but really it's better with the SE or NW winds.
Quetzalcoatl out.
Windsurfing on the Rise!
