Off to Ho'okipa!

Off to Ho'okipa!
Ho'okipa seems to be the call for today. Inconsistant winds from the Northwest, North, Northeast have made the surf at Ho'opika white wash. No consistant curl.
A couple of days of strong trades has the surf back! Strong winds forcasted for today! You heard it Biff Puss! Ho'okipa! It's my 20 year anniversary since the first time I was there. This time I'm armed with more than just a camera.
KOOK!!!!!!!

TOO MUCH!!!
The North Shore was blowin' 31mph. 40mph gusts against the shore break with intermitent rain showers. Liquid smoke everywhere. VERY NARLEY. Sorry, maybe next time.
Kanaha beach park closed due to flooding. Rigged up just up-shore of Kite Beach with 40 or so other windsurfers. 4' - 6'rollers = AIR TIME!
The normally turquoise blue waters of the coast is ugly brown now for the last few days after the torrential rain. Common belief is that the cloudy water keeps the sharks from wanting to check out the shoreline. WRONG.
I was informed that the flooding releases the Tilapia and other fish out of the ponds and the sharks come into feed despite the cloudy water. Overflowing sewage for the treatment plant does'nt help either. Saw 2 fins today. (maybe I'm just imagining things, right professa?) Small grey reef sharks most likely. I HATE SHARKS!!!! My jibes were extra carefull. Anyway it was a good day until the wind shut down abruptly around 3PM.
Light air forecasted for tommorrow. Light for Hawaii at least. Back to Kite Beach for 12 to 16m conditions.

Kook!!! I just read on the Maui Today website that the locals have been doing some heavy chumming at Kahana Beach Park! Apparently they are trying to thin out the unusually high concentration of butt white, obnoxious haole boys!
Couple this with Mr. Tiger’s overpowering love of all-white Kook meat and I would say that certain people should not so much as dip their little toe in that big bad ocean.
Much less blow a jibe or dangle in the water like some mad puppet on strings! Watch out for the brown floaters too. Hey, here comes my good friend Flipper to save the day, “Hi Flipper!!!, wait? You’re not Flipper, you’re!!!!!!!!!!!!" Better pack your bang-stick Kook!!!

Ouch!
You forgot fat, ugly, out-of-shape haole' boy.
NO WIND. What's amatta fo you! Surfer's only at Ho'okipa with waves inconsistant like yesterday. Forecast for this evening is a flash flood warning until 4AM! Storms coming in from da south. Light and variable winds for tommorrow.
Snorkled south of Kihei today then went up to the summit of Haleakala. Went to Star Market to stock up on grinds. Lots of tako poke and Steinlager. Bought an extra package for Madam.
Hawaiian Pro starts Monday. Entry cut-off date was March 1st. Over 80 competitors are starting to arrive. Pick-ups packed 6 boards high - double wide. Look for Fox Sports to cover the event. Wind should be back just in time.

Plus it Lent. Greysuit lay off da kine fish dat swim under and lay on da kine fish dat paddle or be pulled by wind dis month. Keep checkin' behind... Greysuit viewin' for ya bra!
But hey den, Kook is out der, we not. Laugh on us bras!! Can almost smell the kine wave Kook sees and rides. YA WHO!
Thanks for the reports! I use to spend some time in Hawaii as a kid and tried to remember how the language went so I tried to do it above. It's probably so off that I don't care. I just remembering the way it flowed. It was so COOL... My basic thinking was "Damn, Chuck is so lucky to be seeing waves at Ho'okipa in person and we are sitting here waiting for ice out!"
Thanks for the reports. When you kine keep lid on(No Beef), It makes for so fun reading from you. Get back soon so I can definately talk kite!
NOTE: Please, I just made up the Hawaiian stuff to make for good reading. I don't know any more phrases than most of us mainlanders. Hawaii is the most spectaular place I've ever been too, so i can just imagine that Charles is having a good time.
Professor Robae's comments are well founded. In no way was I trying to polk fun at him in this post or anyone else for what it's worth. Ride On!

Just to make you guys feel better, the weather here SUCKS. The coastal water is dirty and this is the second straight day of NO WIND. Forecast is for more rain and clouds
Heading out to Molokini for a little Snuba today. Then going to hook some Mahi Mahi later.

In your last post you said:
"..Then going to hook some Mahi Mahi later."
If you don't know what Mahi Mahi is ... look elsewere
If you DO 'know' what Mahi Mahi is, I'll give you grace to stroll off...
God he made me hungery!!!
"...Where the veterans dream of the fight
Fast asleep at the traffic light
And the children solemnly wait
For the ice cream vendor
Out into the cool of the evening
Strolls the Pretender
He knows that all his hopes and dreams
Begin and end there"
Isn't it so awesome to be alive!?

Back on the mainland
hey Charley,
Sorry I missed you. I left the island Wednesday. What a wet winter... I think I only sailed 3 or 4 times in the last month. There was a lot of Kihei sailing to be had, but I just don't dig offshore sailing. As for brown water, I stay away from it. I hope things straighten out for you with the trades and the swell direction. See you on the water back in Minnesota. Randy

Offshore Sailing
Randy,
After today I think I feel the same as you about offshore sailing in Kehei. Thank goodness there were a few other guys out there with me or it would have been a very expensive day.

It appears that chumming they were doing must have worked pretty Ono. Although Mr. Tiger always knows when there is tasty white Kook meat about. R.I.P. Kook
