Windsurfing/kiting in europe?

Post by Bryce »

Hey, I'm to europe during the month of may ( may 8th - 27th) and I was wondering if there is any good windsurfing or kiting spots I should be sure to. I'm can hold my own windsurfing.. I'm a beginner kiter. And never on a large body of water. Unless Mille lacs or lake of the woods count....

I'm going to be heading to london. Then down to Barcelona, Spain - I know they must have something going on there. They did have windsurfing at the olympics in 92. Madrid.. Teledo.. Then from there heading to ireland, amsterdam, france, or germany. Haven't quite decided on the last leg of the journey.

If anyone could give me some tips I would be much obliged. This is my first time traveling europe. I sure hope i can get in the water!
Thanks,
Bryce

Can you be a little more specific about the towns / cities you are going to in?. You mention London and Barcelona then countries.
London has St. Marys reservoir and a little north is grafam water, but England in May is not gorgeous. depending on where you are in the other countries is going to make a big differerence.
In May all the euros head to vasleki in greece or to Turkey, servento. If you are intermediate both would be good, Vass kicks. Beautiful beaches, great sailing etc.
If you can give more info I'll try to help.

I've been researching places to go in Europe, primarily Italy, as well...I'll be there for a month starting May 15th or so, and Denis should be coming up to kite with me for a few days in early June.

Originally I thought Lake Garda in northern Italy would be the ticket (http://www.garda.com)...from what I read it is supposed to be a great location for wind sports and recreation. (I think windsurfing especially.) Because of time restrictions though I've been looking for somewhere a little closer to Florence, where I will be staying for the month. If you run across anything for kiting near Florence let me know...otherwise, you might want to check out Lake Garda...I've also seen some nice posts of beaches on Sardinia (sp?)...that is a lot further South and looks to b quite nice.

Well London, Barcelona, Madrid, and Toledo (last three in spain). Are the only cities I am going to for sure.

The other ones. Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, and France are my different option that I haven't decided yet. I have about 7 days to travel around in those, so I probably could travel around anywhere. Most Likely it will be ireland or netherlands. Within those two, I was tentively looking at dublin and amsterdam as starting off points.

I don't think I'll be making it to eastern europe this time around. I was looking at the former yugoslavia area (croatia and bosnia/herzegovia)... I have a friend I could stay with.... but that ended up too expensive for this poor university student. :(

Yeah i don't think London in may would be very nice. Although the lakes area in minnesota in april won't be super nice... But I'll still be heading out. I'll keep my options open.. and maybe I'll get lucky and it will be nice while i'm there.

Also if anyone knew any options besides where i'm going in spain. Like the southern coast. I might be able to bus down there for a few days. So long as they have a rental shop or something.. I should be fine.

My trip isn't primary a 'go and catch some wind' vaction. But since I'll be there, I might as well see what is out there! :D
