When uphauling onto a windsurf board or waterstarting with a windsurf board, it's easier to
do so on a longer one than a shorter board.
For example: When I'm out windsurfing and the wind dies down to "sub-planning" wind, if I'm on my
112 liter Bic (which is just barely considered a short board at 263 cms length) I can't get up when uphauling.
Yet, my smaller in volumn board (105 liter Fanatic Gecko) at 278 cms long I can uphaul still when there's very light wind.
So, I think length does mean something for uphauling. I MUST have 20ish (ehh, may 18ish) wind in order to use my shorter 112 liter board and I must rely entirely on waterstarting to be able to get up on it.
Also: for waterstarting, I firmly believe that a longer board is easier to waterstart because when you are getting up onto the board (when waterstarting) immediately the nose of the board "rounds up" into the wind. With short boards you
have no time at all before it rounds up right into the wind and you "plop" back into the water. A longer board gives you
a little more time (like two seconds) to get up onto the board before it rounds up.
Quetzalcoatl out.
Long boards are easier to uphaul or waterstart vs short brds
