The dif. 'tween Plastic, carbon and Glass boards. Riddler?

Post by Quetzalcoatl »

Once upon a time, I asked a good windsurf buddy (who is an outstanding windsurfer), what's the
difference or how can you tell if a board is a carbon (epoxy) or glass? (Plastic boards are easy to identify).

He answered, "Hey, it's like the difference between paper plates and Styrofoam plates!" Well, I wasn't very
satisfied with that answer,,,and I nicknamed him "The Riddler."

I just waited until I had more experience with windsurf boards and I eventually figured this out.

Plastic boards are strong,,,often have no air vent screws (some do) and are Plastic. Carbon boards are light
and very delicate when out of water.. They break or chip like egg shell fragments.

A glass board is really glass! They are heavier than the other ones and therefore stay down in the water in high winds.

They don't get lifted out of the water when you don't want them to. They are usually painted with bright colors like
sherbert icecream and are glass almost like stain glassed windows.

Maybe, "The Riddler" will chime in (I know he's reading this post) and say hello,,or, Hey,,"Riddler, how about a riddle?"

Eric out.
