Windsurfing at Padre I. requires WEED Fin.........

Post by Quetzalcoatl »

The Weed fin is not just for weeds. More importantly sailing off Padre Island in the Laguna Madre (or the Bay) a weed fin is a "must" because
water is shallow,,,usually chest deep (average depth) and one can be blasting across this smooth water at 30 mph and all of a sudden hit a submerged sandbar!

It's a lot better to hit the suddenly extreamly shallow water (or submerged sandbar) with a raked back fin (weed fin) then a straight fin. The impact
is substantially less then hitting it with a stock straight fin or even a wave fin.

But, if you're sailing on the open surf side....any fin will do! Big waves,,some Bull sharks (rarely!),,but fun to see dolfins in both surfside and in the bay (Laguna Madre).

"Happiness is a Weed fin and a clip on boom!"

Quetzalcoatl out.
